What is a Fat Transfer?
The purpose of fat transfer, otherwise known as fat grafting, is to naturally enhance the body by extracting fat cells from a determined area and injecting it into the area of concern. When performing this procedure, fat is harvested using VASER Hi-Def Liposuction from any area of the body where there is an excess of fat. Because fat transfers use a patient’s own fat cells, it is considered biocompatible which means patients are greatly decreasing chances of allergic reactions or rejection from the body. The fat that is injected back into the specified area will gain its own blood supply and make a long-lasting home.
Types of Fat Transfer
Fat Transfer to Breasts
Fat Transfer offers a more natural alternative to breast enlargement as it uses your own fat. It is also an effective treatment to improve breast shape or to even-up lopsided breasts. Fat can be taken from any part of the body, although it is common for patients to choose fat removal from typical problem areas such as the tummy or inner thigh. This form of breast augmentation can help to provide the added advantage of a mini tummy tuck or precise fat reduction from the area of your choice.
Fat Transfer to Buttocks
It is common for buttocks to sag and droop over time, resulting in a loss of pertness and shape. The Brazilian Butt lift treatment has become increasingly popular, adding lift and volume that exercise alone simply can’t deliver. Fat Transfer to the buttocks provides the opportunity to enjoy the results of a butt implant, using your own body fat taken from an area that you wish to tone.
We all have our own ‘problem areas’ that we want to tackle. Fat Transfer offers the chance to deal with multiple concerns using a more natural method, benefitting from minimal downtime and all combined within a one-day surgical procedure.
Please keep in mind that the areas that fat can be removed from are unique to each patient and is something that should be discussed.
Recovery
Our Fat Transfer procedures do not require a general anaesthetic or overnight stay, meaning downtime is minimal. Depending on your health, lifestyle and treated areas, you should be able to return to work within the next 4-7 days following the surgery. Each case is individual, but 3 – 14 days recovery is usually expected.
Following your Fat Transfer procedure, you will need to wear a ‘compression garment’ around the treated areas. The compression garment helps the healing process and works to improve results. Wearing the compression garment post-procedure also prevents pockets of fluid from forming and offers you added support and comfort during your recovery. The length of time the compression garment needs to be worn depends on the area/s treated and the individual.
Fat Transfer does not require any future surgery, however 5 – 10 aftercare sessions will be required.
